The route is very easy. Follow the ring road around the island and you will always find attractions. You can’t go wrong with Iceland they say.
So that was our plan until we met Kristjan who made us feel under prepared :/

Now we have a solid itinerary:
Day 0 Saturday: Prep day and go around the town of Reykjavik.
Day 1 Sunday: Leave Reykjavik at 10am. Get on the Golden Circle route. Visit the Þingvellir National Park, they Geysers (Geysir and Strokkur Geyser), Gulfoss. Get to Seljalandsfoss waterfall before sunset. Camp and Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
Day 2 Monday: Sólheimajökull glacier walk in the morning. Visit Skogafoss for sunset and camp there.
Day 3 Tuesday: Sunrise at Skogafoss. Sólheimasandur plane wreck. Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara beach during sunset. Camp at Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Day 4 and 5 Wednesday and Thursday: Trek through Skaftafell National Park. Head to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Camp at Hofn.
Day 6 Friday: Drive through the Eastern Fjords from Hofn to Egilsstadir. Camp at Egilsstadir.
Day 7 Saturday: Visit Detifoss and explore the Asbyrgi canyon.
Day 8 and 9 Sunday and Monday: Visit Myvatn, Dimmuborgir, Leirhnjukur. Spend the night at Husavik.
Day 10 Tuesday: Leave for Stykkishólmur from Husavik by 9:00 am. Visit Kirkjufell and camp at Grundarfjörður.
Day 11 Wednesday: Drive around the Snæfellsjökull peninsula and camp at Eldborg or Arnarstapi.
Day 12 Thursday: Leave for Reykjavik not later than 8pm. Blue Lagoon at 1pm. Departure to Copenhagen at 11pm.
